As I Discussed in my earlier Posts Why My PC Hangs(Revealed). I showed some of the basic reasons, which leads to slow performance and hanging circumstance. If you check the previous Post Why My Pc Hangs, You will see some of the basic Reasons due to which it causes such behaviour.
I guarantee you that, after reading this post you may be able to deal with the low end system too, which are mostly non responding. It’s not necessary that only low end PC hangs or mid, even high end PC with good configuration also Hangs Or delivers low Performance. There are many reasons as I stated earlier. The Common reason for hanging and slow performance is observed due to harmful virus, Spy-ware, & other Malware, etc. or application not meeting requirement or Due to low memory.
Follow below Steps to Stop PC from Hanging and Slow Performance
If Your Pc Hangs often and performs very slow or application gets hung often, then it may be due to the following reasons as shown below:
If it’s due to virus or malware. You should take this seriously and remove the virus or malware from the system.
- Reason No 1: Virus
To Remove Virus, I Recommend you to use good Antivirus Software. Most Viruses often create a process which keeps running in the background, infecting other files and keeps spreading in your System. This process which run in background could be viewed using a task manager, If you know which virus process is running in the background, you could manually end process or kill the process from the task manager itself.
- Reason No 2: Software’s Requirement
Every Software has its requirement (requirements are the essential hardware and software resources which are needed to process the application) i.e. Ram, Processor, Hard Disk, Etc. If Your Pc Configuration is not supporting any application and require high configuration, then such applications are going to hang or result in slow behaviour.
- Reason No 3: Unwanted Software’s
Stop using unwanted software’s, which are not needed or not using. Keeping Unwanted software installed on the system will lead to hard-disk space and system memory utilization, which results in slow performance of the system.
Fix: To Remove any software, you can remove using the window uninstaller. Go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add or Remove Program.
- Reason No 4: Remove Program or Application from Windows Startup
If your PC takes longer time to load Windows XP after login screen in comparison to before. If that is the case with you, then the root cause of this issue is due to the startup program. When you install numerous application, and many of this software create a startup (i.e It will load automatically when you start your PC). Consequently, too much of start up application will impact in a slow startup (Window takes more time to load). To remove unwanted application starting automatically, follow the below Simple Steps.
Fix: Open Run –> Enter "Msconfig" without quotes –> Go to startup Tab.
Now uncheck (Remove tick) the application you don’t want it to be loaded when the window startup. Now Apply & Ok & Restart.
Note: Don’t uncheck antivirus or important driver or software. Uncheck application which you don’t want to be startup automatically For e.g.: Yahoo messenger, uTorrent, etc.
- Reason No 5: Driver Problem
It has been observed that many problems occur due to improper installation or uninstall of drivers. Problem found due to driver issue are, Songs does not play normally, poor graphic, Slow performance, etc.
Fix: Uninstall the driver completely and reinstall with the latest and updated version of the driver on the system. This will solve all problems related to Drivers on the system.
- Reason No 6: Hard disk Problem
Make Free-space in your hard disk. When your hard-drive is full or fragmented always results in slow performance or system begins to hang. It is very important to always De-fragment your hard disk.
Fix: Go to –> Start –> All Programs –> Accessories –> System Tools –> Defragmentation.
Alternatively, you can also use some other software for defragmenting the hard disk.
- Reason no 7: Application hangs Or Process Hangs.
There are many reasons when your PC becomes unresponsive or Hang. When Application hung, and system freezes saying not responding then in that situation you have only one option left with you, which is restarting the system. When your system hangs or application is not responding, you get a pop-up to End Now, However, after clicking on End Now, Windows most often fails to close the application or takes too much time.
To handle such a problem, there is a best way of dealing with such task in Windows.
Fix: When your System hangs or application hangs, Simply Open Task Manager Press Ctrl + Alt +Delete Or Ctrl + Shift + Esc. Now as you can see in below image, Internet Explorer is not responding. Right-Click on the application or the task and go to process tab. Now just click on End Process to kill iexplorer Process (iexplorer process refers to internet explorer application.) Click On Yes And Done, Back To Normal.
In case, Windows explorer hangs, kill explorer.exe, you might see your desktop is blank where in the start menu and task bar are invisible. Now open Run command, Type explorer.exe and Enter. You will see system is back to normal and desktop restored back to normal. In Case, If your System completely hangs i.e. PC is not responding to any command, then there is no option except restart your computer.
In my next post, I will explain how to prevent virus from entering the system manually and also how to Delete virus manually requested by many readers.
